Judy Sizemore |
| Judy Sizemore, a resident
of Pensacola, Florida since 1978 was born in Russell Springs, Kentucky in
1945. Judy's blindness was caused by a loss of blood pressure with
pancreatitus in 1965, which left her with less than 10% of her sight.
That has never slowed her down! Judy had attended cosmetology school in Louisville, Kentucky and received her apprentice license prior to the onset of her blindness at age 19 and achieved her operators license after. She continues to maintain that license and has worked at a local Alzheimer's Assisted Living Facility as their Beauty Shop operator for more than 12 years. Providing much more than just haircuts and permanents, her attitude on life and cheerful personality (as well as the ever thoughtful sweet treats she provides) made the residents want to come to the shop as part of their day! She is caring and thoughtful and considers everyone worthwhile. Judy has been recognized as a volunteer with the U.S. Navy on numerous occasions. At the U.S. Navy base in Quantanimo Bay, Cuba in 1989 she was selected as the Base's Red Cross Volunteer of the Year for her assistance in the hospital X-Ray department. She has been highlighted in several newspaper articles for not letting her loss of sight get her down! She was recognized in the Gosport for bowling a 212 at the NTTC Corey Naval Station Bowling Alley. In 2003, she was recognized in a Pensacola News Journal article about J.A.W.S program/ computer usage (See photos and events link at Independence For the Blind Web Page: http://www.ibwest.org/Photos.htm). She currently works as a Telephone Reservationist with Good Time Tours in Pensacola, Florida. With the assistance of the J.A.W.S. program, Judy accesses information on her computer and makes reservations for those that want it and information to all. Answering the telephone in one ear, and listening to J.A.W.S. in the other ear, once again, her personality comes through with all that she does, as she provides outstanding customer service. She consistently receives praise from callers and supervisors! Judy continues to reside in Pensacola, Florida with her Husband, Byron. She has two step-sons, one resides in Pensacola and the other in Hannibal, New York with his wife and family. Judy's daughter, Jamey Antle Holt, died in 1997. Judy has five grandchildren, two in Pensacola, Florida (Laura and Korey Holt) and three in Hannibal, New York (Ashlee, Brittany, and Travis Sizemore). |
